Everything about Caught A Lite Sneeze totally explained
"
Caught a Lite Sneeze" is a song by
Tori Amos, released as the first single from her
1996 album
Boys For Pele. It reached #60 on the
Billboard Hot 100 and #20 on the
UK Singles Charts, and is one of the most recognized songs by Amos and a fan-favourite. Surprisingly, it doesn't appear on her best-of collection,
Tales of a Librarian.
The song is about wanting to do anything to keep a relationship going, knowing that it's over. It references
Nine Inch Nails's album
Pretty Hate Machine in the following lyric: "Caught a lite sneeze / Dreamed a little dream / Made my own pretty hate machine."
In live performances from 1996 and 1998, Amos would frequently insert lines directly from and inspired by "
Hurt," another song from Nine Inch Nails.
It was the first song to be made available as a free Internet download.
It was also covered on
Evans Blue's new album
The Pursuit Begins When This Portrayal of Life Ends.
